Bengals late-season schedule got a little easier after unfortunate injury news

Coach is in his first season. This past week, the Cincinnati Bengals reached what many considered to be the challenging part of their schedule, and they showed no signs of fatigue. They destroyed the 49ers 31–17, and the Bills will be their next “tough” opponent when they visit town for a Sunday night rumble in the Jungle in Week 9. Though Trotz was the team’s first coach and Brunette was a player in the Preds’ early years, Andrew Brunette and General Manager Barry Trotz in their roles in Nashville.

In a late-season matchup, the Bengals will play the Minnesota Vikings in Week 15 of the current season. This seemed to be a challenging game toward the conclusion of the season when the schedules were released in May.

But after the Vikings fell behind 0–3, the game lost its frightening quality. The Vikings then made a comeback to go to 4-4, but it was all for nothing because Kirk Cousins would be sidelined for the remainder of the year due to an Achilles tear.

Bengals vs. Vikings no longer a marquee match-up

Although Cousins can be a confounding quarterback at times, he provided the Vikings with their best opportunity for future success. Josh Dobbs was acquired by them before the deadline, and when the Bengals faced him in the desert early in the season, Dobbs gave them everything they could handle. But the Vikings aren’t nearly as formidable as they would have been with Cousins at the controls, whether it’s Dobbs or rookie quarterback Jaren Hall.

This game could be the difference between the Bengals making the playoffs or watching from home or them winning the division or having to play in the postseason as a wild card team so the fact that it got a little easier is a plus. However, the fact that it’s now “easier” because of an injury to a well-respected quarterback, that’s unfortunate.

Here’s to hoping that Cousins has a speedy recovery and can continue balling out next year and beyond (as long as it’s not against the Cincinnati Bengals).
