‘He hasn’t done it’: Sky pundit says £80m Liverpool player simply isn’t doing enough

Darwin Nunez is currently a divisive figure in world football.

Some admire him and believe he’s just a few steps away from being one of the world’s top footballers, while others believe he’s a clumsy, wasteful striker who costs Liverpool far too much money.

Darwin Nunez is a divisive figure in world football right now.

Some admire him and believe he’s just a couple of steps away from being one of the world’s top footballers, while others believe he’s a clumsy, wasteful striker who costs Liverpool far too much money.

We lean toward the first camp, but one man who isn’t a fan of Nunez is Jay Bothroyd.

The former England striker remarked on Sky Sports’ Saturday Social that he does not believe Nunez has done enough for Liverpool to justify his exorbitant fee.

Nunez has not contributed enough.
Bothroyd weighed in on the Liverpool star.

“He’s somewhere between a C and a D for me.” He’s played the most of his games on the left, and when he’s played as a striker, I don’t think he’s done well. We talked about missed opportunities, and he’s had a lot of them. At £80 million, I’m expecting him to come in and score goals, but he hasn’t done so in the Premier League yet. “He needs to work on his striker composure,” Bothroyd remarked.

Warming up

Nunez probably hasn’t done enough for Liverpool in terms of a goal return after an £80m transfer, but it has to be said that he’s warming up nicely now.

Indeed, his two goals against Newcastle two weeks ago felt like a real turning point, and he followed that up with another goal against Aston Villa.

It’s hard to argue that Nunez has done enough so far, but he is suddenly starting to move in the right direction.

Nunez could still end up justifying his huge pricetag at Anfield.
