‘Magnificent’: BBC pundit stunned by what Wolves player did in 6th minute vs Man City

BBC pundit Garth Crooks has raved over Craig Dawson and in particular, his goal-saving interception to deny Erling Haaland a goal for Manchester City on Saturday.

Wanderers picked up three massive points at Molineux.

Gary O’Neil executed a perfect plan to defend and counter

Pedro Neto forced an own goal from Ruben Dias to break the deadlock.

Julian Alvarez then equalised with a beauty of a free-kick.

But Hwang Hee-chan continued his fine form, scoring the winner after good work from Matheus Cunha.

Wolves had to be on top form defensively.

And Dawson was an absolute colossus at the back.

And Crooks has selected the 3-year-old in his latest Team of the Week…

Garth Crooks stunned by one Craig Dawson moment in Wolves 2-1 Man City

Dawson was imperious throughout on Saturday.

He was up against Erling Haaland, arguably the best striker in world football, and did not give him a sniff.

But the Norwegian looked as though he might score in just the 6th minute of the game.

A low cross from Matheus Nunes looked like it was heading right into his path for him to tap it in.

But Dawson just nicked it away from him at the last second. It was a piece of defending so good, that even Haaland himself congratulated Dawson.

Crook said: “Seeing Pep Guardiola having to watch his team from the stands due to his touchline ban should have told us something. This was a bad afternoon for Manchester City and matters got progressively worse as the day wore on.

“The ball from Ruben Dias was matched by the cross-field volley from Matheus Nunes but the clearance by Wolves defender Dawson, as Erling Haaland was about to tap the ball home, was magnificent.

“Dawson went on to clear another certain goal off the line just as the champions looked as though they were back in control of the match. Wolves defended brilliantly on the day and Dawson in particular. They reduced arguably the best striker in the world to one genuine strike on goal.”

Defensive brilliance from Dawson

This action from Dawson was absolutely crucial.

If Haaland scores in that moment, it is a totally different game.

Potentially, Wolves could have been on the receiving end of a thrashing. Because it is demoralising to concede early. Especially coming into the game off the back of an embarrassing defeat to Ipswich Town.

So it was a huge interception from Dawson, who then shone for the rest of the game.
