BBC expert delivers verdict on Rangers manager Philippe Clement sack at Monaco

Scott Coyne believes that Rangers manager Philippe Clement’s sack at Monaco does not mean he’s in any way a bad appointment.

The Belgian football expert told the BBC that his three consecutive titles with Genk and Club Brugge hold him in good stead.

Coyne said, “He offers things that other higher profile candidates don’t.

“I think the real standout would have been those three consecutive titles with Genk and Club Bruges.

“That’s a degree of consistency that’s been missing in who Rangers have appointed in recent years. As a player he was a serial winner as well.”

“There are mixed views on his time in France,” Coyne goes on to say. “Monaco is a club with high hopes. They finished third in his first season, but everything went south in his second.

“They lost key players and did not advance to the Champions League groups.” But it shouldn’t be a major blemish on his record because all managers will be fired at some point.”

Is that a good move?

Clement is a well-known football manager noted for his tactical ability, leadership abilities, and remarkable track record.

His management style can be characterised by a strong emphasis on discipline and team unity as he is a meticulous strategist who excels at organising his teams defensively while also nurturing their attacking prowess.

This balance may be just what Rangers need to push Celtic for the title this season, since a few results might shift the league’s complexion.

Clement’s managerial career has seen him lead clubs to success, most notably at Club Brugge, where he won three Belgian Pro League titles.

He has shown an unflinching devotion to player development and a good eye for talent, helping his teams to thrive.

Gers fans will be hopeful that he does not follow in the footsteps of Giovanni van Brocnkhorst or Michael Beale and stays at the club for the long haul.
