Former Aston Villa starlet Jaden Philogene has been nominated for the Championship’s Player of the Month award and the £15 million buy-back clause in his contract will ‘worry’ Hull City.
While there was certainly some controversy about the decision to hand the goal to Jaden Philogene after his stunning rabona effort deflected into the back of the Rotherham United net, the manner in which he created the opening before contorting his limbs into a position that would tear the hamstrings of us mere mortals spoke volumes about the flair and the thrill which has made the winger such a hit on Humberside.
Philogene, the Aston Villa academy graduate, has eight goals and six assists in all competitions. And while they weren’t all as dazzling as his contribution against The Millers, the deal which took the England under-21 international to Hull last summer is starting to look like one of the most inspired pieces of business in recent EFL history.
Philogene is one of six nominees for February’s Player of the Month award, and may find himself having to clear space on his mantelpiece in the coming days.
“He’s having a fantastic season,” former England midfielder Carlton Palmer tells Football League World. “(Philogene) is looking a snip at £5 million.”

Hull vice chairman Tan Kesler has already confirmed the existence of a buy-back clause in Philogene’s contract, meaning Aston Villa can bring the former Cardiff and Stoke loanee back to the Midlands for £15 million.
And, on current form, £15 million looks a bargain of a fee.
