Latest Aston Villa news from BirminghamLive includes the reported interest in Bayer Leverkusen Jeremie Frimpong

Aston Villa are said to be interested in Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Jeremie Frimpomg.

According to the German publication Kicker. Last season, the 22-year-old was one of Bayer’s standout performers, with nine goals and 11 assists in 48 games across all competitions.

He has extended that form into current season, scoring twice and assisting three times. According to reports, Leverkusen is eager to sign the right-back to a longer deal and has made a pitch to the player.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano claims that Frimpong is “set to accept” the new long-term deal proposal valid until 2028 and is reportedly set to be one of the top earners in the squad.

Romano adds that “many clubs are tracking” his development. Kicker meanwhile, mention that Villa have shown interest in the “high-speed footballer.”

Former Bayer star Moussa Diaby played with Frimpong for two seasons at the club before joining Villa this summer. However, a move to the Premier League isn’t thought to be Frimpong’s choice just yet.

Manchester United are claimed to have previously held talks with the defender’s representatives.
