Emery provides welcome insight on injured Villa ace as he recovers

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery has revealed that Tyrone Mings has been a consistent presence at the training ground since suffering his knee injury.

The 30-year-old sustained a significant knee injury in our opening game of the Premier League season against Newcastle Utd last month, in what was both a bitter and damaging setback.

Mings is anticipated to miss the most, if not all, of the season due to the injury, and we’ve already seen during our first six games that his presence in the heart of the backline will be missed, such is his importance when in the Villa XI.

It remains to be seen when a timeframe for his recuperation and future comeback is revealed, but given the seriousness of the issue, it’s way too early at this point.

In contrast to Emiliano Buendia, who also suffered a serious knee injury last month but has provided regular updates on his progress on social media, Mings has remained silent, with no indication from any of his teammates as to how his recovery is progressing or if he has been around the squad.

Fortunately, Emery has shed some light on the England international, confirming that he has been present at Bodymoor Heath in recent weeks.

“For them [Mings and Buendia] it is difficult, but they are every day here with us,” he is quoted as saying by BirminghamLive’s John Townley. “We are trying to be close with them and they are very close with their teammates and everything we’re doing.”

It is critical that Mings maintains his spirits, and the best way to do so is to be with his teammates and get support and encouragement during his rehabilitation.

We’ve seen Alex Moreno post on social media to show his support for Buendia, who is now going through his paces in pool-based exercises, but with Mings wiping his Instagram account of all but one post after his injury setback, and seemingly wanting to take a different approach and mindset to his recovery, the Villa fanbase is concerned.

While we may not have seen him around, Emery’s insight is a welcome update and it’s hoped that both Mings and Buendia can make a full and swift recovery to perhaps even feature before the season is over.
