Red Bull’s dominance in the Japanese Grand Prix, according to Martin Brundle, “broke my heart.” Brundle also concurred that Max Verstappen probably already had the 2024 championship locked up.

With hardly any effort, the Dutchman won the race, bringing his total of wins from four starts this season to three. Red Bull already secured its third one-two finish of the year when teammate Sergio Perez finished second.

Two weeks prior in Melbourne, Perez could only finish fifth and Verstappen was forced to retire due to brake flames. Neither had been on the podium. In their absence, Ferrari finished first and second, giving fans hope that they could challenge Red Bull.

But in Japan, things carried on as usual. During the Sky Sports F1 podcast, Brundle gave his impression of the Suzuka weekend and expressed his disappointment that there was not more of a fight for the win.

“I’ve learned that, in spite of my high hopes, wishes, and expectations that the pack had narrowed the gap to Red Bull following Australia, when we went to one of the greatest handling circuits ever at Suzuka, Red Bull finished first and second at a canter,” he stated.

“I really felt like it broke my heart because I had assumed it would be a little closer to the front. However, Red Bull would always be a good fit for that track.” Although Red Bull’s lead over Ferrari is only 21 points at the moment, it will undoubtedly grow if the leaders continue to experience reliability problems.
