Analyst Explains How Tua Tagovailoa Can Become The MVP Favorite
In his fourth pro season, Miami Dolphins Tua Tagovailoa has played excellent football, and he has directed the league’s top scoring offense.
Through 15 games, he has thrown for 26 touchdowns while leading the league with 4,214 passing yards and a 70.5 percent completion rate.
However, despite the Dolphins’ 11-4 record, Tagovailoa isn’t getting much love in the race for the regular season MVP award.
Emmanuel Acho said on Fox Sports 1’s “Speak” that he can leapfrog Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson as the favorite to win the award if he simply plays the way he did against the Ravens last season in week 2.
“All it’s gonna take is Tua playing like he played against the Ravens last year,” Acho said.
In that game, he threw for 469 yards and six touchdowns as Miami got past the Ravens, 42-38.
Playing an incredible game like that on Sunday will be a very tall order, as the Ravens are first in points allowed, passing touchdowns given up, and turnovers forced.
Jackson took the lead in the MVP race after the Ravens’ big win over the San Francisco 49ers on Christmas Day.
While he had 252 passing yards and two touchdown passes, 49ers QB Brock Purdy, who came into the game as the MVP favorite, had four interceptions and no touchdowns.
The big knock against the Dolphins this year has been their lack of wins against teams with a winning record, as they didn’t have a single one until they defeated the Dallas Cowboys by two points this past Sunday.
A win over Baltimore would send a major message to the rest of the NFL that they have what it takes to make a deep playoff run this season.
