Kris Boyd slams Rangers summer signings, only Jack Butland can have ‘head held high’

Only goalkeeper Jack Butland has impressed among the Rangers summer signings, according to ex-Gers striker Kris Boyd.

The former Manchester United and Crystal Palace shot-stopper was one of nine new players to arrive at Ibrox ahead of the new season.

But the poor recruitment and poor form of those players has now resulted in the sacking of manager Michael Beale, Boyd added.

“I don’t think they’d seen enough improvement,” said Boyd, as quoted by Sky Sports. “I think it all comes down to recruitment again, and Jack Butland is the only one of the arrivals who can keep his head held high at this moment in time.

“The rest have been nowhere near it and are going to have to improve. Unfortunately for Michael Beale he pays the price of poor recruitment and poor performances and results on the pitch.”

Ibrox misery

It’s been a tough season so far for Rangers, with their new signings really not having much of an impact at the club since joining.

Attackers Sam Lammers, Abdallah Sima, Danilo and Cyriel Dessers have not been among the goals as much as they would have liked.

Midfielders Jose Cifuentes and Kieran Dowell have struggled to impress, although the latter has struggled with injury since joining.

At the back, Dujon Sterling and Leon Balogun haven’t exactly found regular minutes, which may be down to their struggles on the training ground, or perhaps reserve roles were always what Beale had in mind for the duo.

Butland has certainly impressed between the sticks, with the goalkeeper perhaps having the biggest boots to fill out of all the new players given how he was brought in to replace the legendary Allan McGregor.

The summer transfer window was exciting for Gers fans, but now it looks to have been a failure given Beale’s early sacking.
