‘Class player who went off the boil’: Steve Bull gives honest verdict on 27-year-old Wolves man

Steve Bull, a Molineux icon, believes Wolves were correct to release Daniel Podence.

The winger was the final player to leave Molineux this summer.

He left the club to join Olympiacos on loan, having already extended his contract with Wolves.

Wanderers wanted to maintain his worth because he only had a year left on his contract. Podence’s new contract runs until the summer of 2025, with an option for an additional year.

Podence had expressed a desire to leave Wolves and had not been a member of the squad during pre-season due to rumors over his future.

Gary O’Neil recently stated that Podence did not share in Wolves’ goals.

After considerable talk about a possible move to Saudi Arabia, the loan transfer to Olympiacos was made possible – and Bull believes it was for the best…

Steve Bull weighs in on Daniel Podence’s loan departure from Wolves.
Bull stated earlier this summer that Wolves should have tried to keep Podence.

However, this was before it became public that he was dissatisfied and wanted to leave.

Bull now believes that Wolves’ decision to facilitate Podence’s exit was the correct one.

“Players come and go, and it was the right time for Daniel Podence to leave,” he stated (Express & Star). There was some unhappiness because he wanted to play football and if they weren’t going to employ him, he might as well go play somewhere else.

“Fair play if it’s best for both parties.” He’s a gifted player, but he doesn’t fit in at Wolves right now. He’s a first-rate player who went off the rails.”

Daniel Podence had to go

There was no way he could have stayed in the squad, no matter how much Wolves could have done with him.

When O’Neil openly said that Podence and Wolves were not on the same wavelength, it was evident that he could not stay.

The importance of harmony in the dressing room cannot be overstated. Especially when a season has the potential to be extremely difficult.

On his day, we all know Podence is a terrific player.

However, he lacks consistency and has the ability to irritate.

He would have had people on his back if he had stayed and continued to be erratic.

Wolves would have preferred to sell, but they were able to prolong his contract and maintain his worth.
