Wigan Warriors Announces Departure Of Six Players….

Wigan Warriors have confirmed the departure of six players as they reshape their squad ahead of the 2025 Super League season. The changes signal a strategic shift as the club looks to refresh its roster and build on recent successes.

Among the departures is England international Morgan Smithies, who has signed a three-year deal with NRL side Canberra Raiders. Smithies made 114 appearances for Wigan and was instrumental in their Grand Final triumph. Veteran forward Mike Cooper has announced his retirement due to medical advice, bringing his long and respected career to an end.

Playmaker Ryan Hampshire has joined Featherstone Rovers after his contract expired, while long-serving forward Willie Isa has also decided to retire. Both players brought valuable experience and depth to the squad during their time with the club.

In addition, two young players will spend the 2025 season on loan. Tiaki Chan has joined Salford Red Devils, and George Hirst will play for Oldham Roughyeds, giving both players the opportunity for more regular game time and development.

Head coach Matt Peet acknowledged the contributions of the departing players and emphasized that the decisions are part of a long-term plan to evolve the team. With salary cap space freed up, Wigan is expected to be active in the transfer market as they target key signings and continue to invest in youth development.
