Greg McElroy identifies Florida State’s biggest needs in transfer portal…
As Florida State looks to bounce back from a challenging 2024 season, ESPN analyst Greg McElroy has highlighted key areas the Seminoles need to address in the transfer portal. With aspirations of returning to ACC contention, here are Florida State’s top priorities:
1. Quarterback Stability
The quarterback position remains a significant concern. With the departure of five-star freshman Luke Kromenhoek to the transfer portal, Florida State is seeking a reliable leader. McElroy stresses the importance of securing a stable signal-caller. To this end, Thomas Castellanos, who previously played for Gus Malzahn at UCF, has joined the team. He’ll compete with DJ Uiagalelei, who faced inconsistencies last season.
2. Offensive Line Reinforcements
Florida State’s offensive line is in need of immediate upgrades. Key players have exhausted their eligibility, leaving holes to fill. Marcellus Marshall (UCF), Isaiah World (Nevada), and Alex Wollschlaeger (Bowling Green) are potential targets to bring depth and experience. McElroy notes that strengthening the offensive line is essential for both pass protection and establishing a strong running game.
3. Defensive Line Depth
The departure of players like Joshua Farmer and Darrell Jackson has left a gap in Florida State’s defensive line. To counter this, McElroy suggests adding experienced transfers such as James Williams and Princewill Umanmielen to ensure the Seminoles remain competitive in the trenches.
4. Wide Receiver Playmakers
Finally, Florida State needs more dynamic wide receivers to improve its passing game. McElroy emphasizes the need for playmakers who can stretch the field and consistently make plays.
