The Toronto Blue Jays managed to add one of the best relievers in free agency to their ranks to give their bullpen a good boost.

However, before signing with the Blue Jays, Hoffman agreed to a three-year, $40 million deal with the Orioles, but it fell through due to concerns with Hoffman’s physique, according to MLB analyst Robert Murray.

Hoffman, 32, had his best MLB season with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2024, emerging as one of the best relief arms in Major League Baseball.

The New York native had 89 strikeouts in 68 appearances, the most of his career, earning him his first All-Star Game appearance.

During his two seasons in Philadelphia, Hoffman had a 2.28 ERA, ranking him sixth among pitchers with at least 100 appearances in that span.

Hoffman was nearly out of the majors two years ago when he had a 5.68 ERA over seven seasons with the Colorado Rockies and Cincinnati Reds before joining the Phillies.
