Wisconsin football brings in Grambling defensive lineman via transfer portal…
The University of Wisconsin football team continued the reshaping of its defensive line Saturday.
Grambling transfer Michael Garner announced he was joining the Badgers, marking the fifth defensive lineman to join the program since the transfer portal opened on Dec. 9. Garner is a 6-foot-5 Chicago native who played in 14 games, per Pro Football Focus. He notched 16 tackles, five sacks and 13 pressures, and has played 243 snaps in his career.
Garner was a three-star recruit in the class of 2023, according to 247Sports composite. He didn’t receive any scholarship offers from power-conference programs, but had offers from the likes of Akron, Central Michigan, Eastern Illinois, Miami (Ohio) and Navy, among others.
Wisconsin coach Luke Fickell has made clear he wants taller, bigger defensive linemen for the Badgers. Garner and the other four incoming transfers — Mason Reiger, Charles Perkins, Parker Petersen and Corey Walker — fit that mold.
Garner is the 15th transfer to announce a commitment to Wisconsin. Others include quarterbacks Billy Edwards Jr. and Danny O’Neil, tight end Tanner Koziol, receivers Jayden Ballard and Mark Hamper, safeties Matthew Traynor and Matt Jung, linebacker Antarron Turner, punter Stone Anderson (walk-on) and long snapper Eli Stein.
