“And still,” says the chairman of the Wigan Warriors, despite the World Club Challenge defeat.

Super League champions Wigan Warriors and NRL kings Penrith Panthers will not face one other again in the World Club Challenge in 2025, according to the 2025 Super League schedule.

Wigan made it clear that they wanted to play the match, and they looked at every possibility, even going to Australia to play the four-time NRL champions.

There won’t be any staging between the two competitions next season, though, as Penrith will face the Brisbane Broncos at the NRL Magic Weekend the following year and there won’t be any more space available due to a packed calendar that includes Las Vegas.

With a thrilling 16–12 victory at Brick Community Stadium in February, the Cherry and Whites earned a record-tying fifth title. Despite the setback, Wigan chairman Professor Chris Brookes is optimistic and hopes the team’s continued champion status can contribute to a lasting legacy in the community.

He clarified that winning the World Club Challenge was a significant event after being named chairman in December of last year, before of the 2024 season. It’s significant for this club. But let’s focus on the bright side.

The global champions are still us. In order to take advantage of that, we must consider how we can use our position as World Club champions to raise the profile and awareness of our club and community. Then, we can use that to our advantage the following season and truly go forward with that title having an impact.

“How can we effectively capitalise for the benefit of the club, our community, and rugby league as the global club champions? That is a crucial aspect for the board and the club to consider. That’s my perspective.

All of the 2025 fixtures are been set, as Wigan will play Warrington Wolves at home in Round 3 at Sin City as part of a quadruple-header at Allegiant Stadium. “We’re eager to get to Las Vegas,” Prof. Brookes added. “Even though I’ve never gambled before, I’m eager to go and experience the scene.

Next are some of the major games: Saints at home on Good Friday, which is a mouthwatering matchup with Hull KR, Leigh at home, which is a fantastic rivalry with two outstanding teams in the borough. There are many things to anticipate.
