Harry Higham- has departed Wigan Warriors to sign for League 1 outfit Swinton Lions for 2025.

A youthful outside back Harry Higham, the son of former Super League great Micky, has left the Wigan Warriors to join the 2025 Swinton Lions of League 1.

The 19-year-old, who played his junior amateur days at community team Leigh Miners Rangers and previously represented Salford Red Devils, inked his first deal with the Warriors in 2022. Higham did not make his first-team debut for the Cherry and Whites in 2023, but he did score three tries in as many games for the Warriors Academy.

Harry Higham, the son of former Super League hooker Micky (seen above), has moved from Wigan to the League 1 Swinton Lions.

He is the son of Micky, a former hooker for England and Great Britain who had a successful career with Leigh, St Helens, Wigan, and Warrington, making over 500 professional appearances.

Between 2006 and 2008, Micky made 97 appearances for the Warriors, scoring 17 tries. He has won three Challenge Cups with Warrington and the Super League title with Saints.

Harry is going to the Swinton Lions, who will play in League 1 the following season following a Championship relegation play-off loss to Hunslet.

After Alan Kilshaw left, former Warrington Wolves and England prop Paul Wood was officially announced as the team’s new head coach for the 2025 campaign in October.

Higham moves to Heywood Road alongside Finley Beardsworth, another talented Wigan player. Wigan’s Reserves team began the back-rower, who progressed through the youth system at Bank Quay Bulls, in their 2023 Grand Final triumph over St Helens at Robin Park Arena. The two join Reece Briers at Swinton, the son of Lee, the former assistant coach at Wigan and a legendary half-back in the Super League and Wales.

After losing to Huntington in the play-offs, the Heywood Road team—once dual-registration partners with the Wigan Warriors—was demoted at the conclusion of 2024. Later, the team and coach Alan Kilshaw parted ways.

Since first-team players like Harry Smith and Liam Marshall gained first-team experience with the club before becoming Cherry and Whites supporters, Wigan and Swinton have enjoyed a close relationship in the past.

After playing more than 300 games for Warrington as a player and representing England during a successful career, this is Wood’s first job as head coach.
