Leeds United boss Daniel Farke has indicated that winger Helder Costa is not being considered for selection because he wants to leave.
Helder Costa wants to leave Leeds United and ‘won’t be involved’ as he seeks a move away from Elland Road.
With three wins in the last five games, the Whites are making inroads in the Championship.
Leeds manager Daniel Farke has a track record of leading promotion drives, and the club is hopeful he can do the same in West Yorkshire.
One player who will not be a part of the tour is winger Costa, who is no longer in Farke’s plans.
Farke has been speaking to Leeds Live ahead of taking his Whites side to face Southampton this weekend.
The subject of winger Costa came up given that he hasn’t played a single minute for the Whites this season.
The 29-year-old is back at Leeds after spending last season on loan at Saudi Arabian side Al Ittihad.
Costa was expected to leave Leeds permanently over the summer but that hasn’t happened – and he won’t be featuring for Leeds.
Farke has suggested that Costa wants to leave and is ‘not in our plans’ at Elland Road.
Farke added that Costa ‘won’t be involved’ whilst Leeds attempt to find a solution for him to move on.
“Nothing has changed,” said Farke. “Helder’s wish was for him to move. Everything is professional. We are working on a solution but he’s not in our plans. I think Helder had a great career in English football and he’s a good guy but he won’t be involved,” he added.
Leeds paid a hefty £15 million fee for Costa after first loaning him to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
It’s probably fair to say that Costa hasn’t shown to be a good value for money.
Costa only has three goals and three assists in 23 appearances after making the switch permanently before going on loan to Valencia.
Costa is now entirely out of the picture at Leeds and faces a difficult season as transfer windows across the world close.
Maybe Leeds can reach an agreement to pay up Costa’s contract, but he would still face being without a club until January.
That’s far from ideal but it sounds like a route Leeds may go down in an effort to get Costa out of the club.
