Injury Update: Motte Remains Day-to-Day…

After today’s practice, Detroit Red Wings head coach provided an update on the health status of his team:

“I think we’re fairly good, obviously [Tyler] Motte still out in a day-to-day scenario, but we should look very similar to where we were Saturday night.

That lineup for Saturday’s win over the Predators looked as follows.

Motte, meanwhile, was injured in last Thursday’s home defeat to the New York Rangers, apparently shaken up after an awkward collision with Rangers defenseman Victor Mancini.

Lalonde subsequently characterized the injury as “upper body.”

That Motte was not placed on injured reserve suggests Detroit did not anticipate a week-long absence or longer, though of course he could be placed on IR retroactively should the contrary prove to be the case.

It’s worth noting that Motte’s injury status is of some significance when it comes to the status of Marco Kasper. Kasper was technically called up under emergency conditions.

The emergency (as defined by the NHL’s Collective Bargaining Agreement) would no longer be in place once Motte returns to full health.Injury Update: Motte Remains Day-to-Day - Yahoo Sports

However, the Red Wings could then call up Kasper, not on an emergency basis, as Detroit was only using 22 of its allowable 23 roster spots prior to Motte’s injury and Kasper’s call-up in an act of cap accrual.

Given how Kasper played Saturday, it seems safe to say the Red Wings will find a way to keep a place for him on the roster and in the lineup, even after Motte returns.
