Director of Netflix’s Simone Biles documentary: ‘She still has her own struggles’…

The director of Netflix’s Simone Biles documentary revealed the gymnastics legend still “struggles” with her mental health, three years on from her dramatic exit from the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Simone Biles: Rising follows her recovery from that decision to leave Team USA after suffering from the twisties, when a gymnast loses their air awareness and becomes a danger, to her rebounding effort at the 2024 Games in Paris where she won three gold medals.

“I’m sure she was feeling the pressure,” Katie Walsh said to Fox News Digital of Biles in France over the summer. “I think it would be impossible not to.Simone Biles Rising Director Katie Walsh Talks Going To Paris For Part 2

“As much as she does her very best, and has done a really good job of managing all of the outside expectations and sort of tasks on her, she’s still the face of the Olympics and everyone was there to see her compete and everyone was there to just see her, period.”

Biles shrugged off disappointment of floor exercise silver
Biles, increasingly regarded as the greatest gymnast of all-time, claimed the top prize in the teams’ event, vault and all-around whilst she only lost the gold in the floor exercise due to her own missteps rather than someone producing superior skills.Simone Biles Rising Director Katie Walsh Talks Going To Paris For Part 2

Yet for the 27-year-old, she had the natural frustration of losing the medal but overall wasn’t fazed too much as she understood the extend of just how she managed to respond to the pressure and expectation.

“She had said to me, I mean, we as the outsiders put all these expectations for her to just win everything all the time,” Walsh added. “But for her, I know team and all around were so important, that was what she was really focused on.

“And that was where she really wanted those. So I don’t think there was even an iota of disappointment in her medal count.”
