Former Celtics guard re-signs …
It didn’t take long for Matt Ryan to find his next step as he re-signed with the Pelicans on a restructured one-year deal, per The Athletic’s Shams Charania. Ryan was originally waived to make room on the roster, but the 3-point marksman landed back on his feet in New Orleans soon afterwards.
Ryan’s coming off a career-best season where he averaged 5.4 points and 1.4 rebounds in 28 games. The 27-year-old also shot a career-best 45.1% on his 3-pointers last season as a floor spacer. So now he’ll get a chance to stick with the Pelicans.
Does Jeff Bezos Want to Buy the Celtics?
Ryan has carved out a nice NBA career for himself. He revealed to MassLive during the 2022 NBA Finals that he was working at a cemetery and driving DoorDash orders a year before his pro career started. The guard was a two-way player for the C’s during the Finals run, where he got to soak in success.
The Pelicans should be an intriguing team next season after finishing 49-33 last season. They were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs to the No. 1-seeded Thunder. New Orleans is looking to take that next step with Zion Williamson and Co., so Ryan will look to make an impact there.
