28-year-old Newcastle ace agrees Premier League loan switch

Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden has agreed to join Luton Town on loan.

According to Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie, Isaac Hayden has agreed to make the move from Newcastle United to Luton Town on loan, and has undergone a medical before confirming the switch.

Hayden is certainly surplus to requirements at St James’ Park. He is way down in the midfield pecking order, behind the likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton, Sean Longstaff, and summer signing Sandro Tonali.

Eddie Howe has confirmed that Hayden has no future with the Magpies. A permanent exit would have been preferable, but with just a few days of the transfer window remaining a departure on loan has been deemed better than nothing.

End of the line for Hayden at Newcastle

The former Arsenal midfielder has played a huge role for the Tyneside club across the last seven seasons, making close to 200 appearances in all competitions, but Newcastle have now progressed to a level beyond Hayden’s talents.

At 28-years-old, Hayden needs regular football. Last season he joined Norwich City in the Championship to get it, but was restricted to just 14 appearances due to injury.

The former England under-21 international will expect plenty of game time at Luton. The Hatters are going to struggle to cope in the Premier League this season, but Hayden will bring steel and experience into the middle of the park for them. He has the ability to make himself a key player at Kenilworth Road.

Whilst Hayden is battling to keep Luton in the Premier League, Newcastle will have their sights set on consolidating their place in the top four, and qualifying for the Champions League again. Moving on the likes of Hayden is all part of the transition that the club is making into one of the elite teams in the country, capable of chasing the biggest prizes.
